Alex Landau files lawsuit against Denver Police Department

In January 2011, the firm filed a complaint on behalf of Alexander Landau, an African American college student, alleging that he was beaten unconscious while known to be unarmed by multiple Denver police officers during a routine traffic stop. The Colorado Civil Rights suit further alleges that he was called racial names after this beating. Photos of his battered face were taken. The case seeks damages and an injunction to address alleged non neutrality and mishandling of Internal Affairs Bureau investigations of racially motivated police misconduct and excessive force complaints against the Denver Police Department, and to increase training and supervision in these important areas.

The case received significant news coverage from the media upon filing, including  Westword writer Joel Warner’s a feature story about Mr. Landau’s case titled “Black and Blue.”  http://www.westword.com/news/alex-landau-was-pulled-over-for-making-an-illegal-left-turn-and-ended-up-beaten-bloody-5111357
